During the afternoons, our living room tends to be the hottest room in the house. That’s because our windows are facing south where the afternoon sun shines for most part of the day. Since our family receives a lot of visitors from time to time, we have to keep the living room a comfortable place to hang out and entertain them.

That includes keeping the living room air in a breathable degree. Opening the windows and allowing natural air to flow in has proven to be a relaxing and economical way to do it. To prevent our visitors from suffering under the afternoon heat we had window solar screens installed on the living room windows.

This type of window accessories is very effective in deflecting the sun’s rays from entering the room and heating up indoor air. The screens could be placed either outside the house or in the living room side. I prefer having them inside so I can roll them up during the evening if I want to. I just cover up the windows with a thick heavy curtain during the night. During the day, I can draw back the curtain and I still have a full view of the outside even if the screens are rolled down.
